It may also include modifying or changing the position of teeth by the way the jaw grows.
After pursuing a Dental Degree, in order to become an orthodontist a dentist would need to complete a Master’s Degree which involves an additional three years of research. In short, they are specialists who can practice dento-facial orthopedics and orthodontics in addition to general dentistry.
There is no fixed time to get started as smile can be enhanced at any age so long as a person still has teeth. However, it has been observed that most orthodontic problems are easier to treat when a person is young. So, depending on the particular problem, it is advised to get an orthodontic consult at age eight or older.

The duration of the treatment depends on the problem and the level of patient cooperation. In general, patients need orthodontic treatment between 10 to 24 months.
Yes, why not!?! It is recommended for patients with orthodontic equipment to wear specially fitted mouth guards. Your orthodontist may provide them to you.
Patients who wear braces should brush their teeth after every meal or snack and before going to bed. Please see more on the Hygiene and Care page.
